Kata from other styles
Do you practice any kata from other styles?
Yes, I have read many reasons for not venturing out of your chosen(?) style, but I have experienced many others for doing so.
Seipai
Here I am, doing a Goju Ryu kata in the place where I was teaching Shotokan.
Jion
And here I am doing a Shotokan kata in the Kyokushin dojo I used to train with.
Doing kata from other systems will give you additional information about Karate. Not only a different point of view but also a richer environment for growing.
Try it!
If you don't know them, may I suggest Tensho, Yantsu, Nijushiho and Tomari Bassai?
(No, not my best performance on those videos, but close enough! Ah, the old times...)
